Nouveau comes from the French term ‘new’. It refers to a young and immediately drinkable wine. It is not generally regarded as a serious type of wine.

Nouveau is most often used to describe the first wine of the Beaujolais vintage. Beaujolais is a region of Burgundy, France. The wine is made from the Gamay grape and it is traditionally first sold on the third Thursday of November to consumers and best consumed by the end of the year.
